A Musical Journey

March 16, 2025

On March 13th the Lyatoshynsky Trio presented their new program “A Journey Through the Seasons” at the Vienna’s Ehrbar Hall. Musicians took the audience on a musical journey through diverse soundscapes – from Ukrainian sounds of nature to Irish folklore and the fiery rhythms of Argentina.

The evening began with Zoltan Almashi’s “Four Seasons,” a contemporary Ukrainian interpretation of nature’s cyclical beauty. The trio embraced the challenge of expressing the nuances of seasonal transitions through Almashi’s distinctive musical language, bringing each movement to life with depth and sensitivity. This was followed by Frank Martin’s “Trio sur des mélodies populaires irlandaises,” where dance-like rhythms intertwined with melancholic melodies. This intricate and expressive piece required absolute precision and deep musical connection, allowing the trio to explore its dynamic interplay.

After the intermission, the audience witnessed a special world premiere: “LHC” by young Ukrainian composer Sonia Lozina. Inspired by the Large Hadron Collider, the piece pushed the boundaries of sound with bold rhythmic structures and innovative playing techniques. The trio embraced its energy, weaving a sonic tapestry that resonated throughout the hall.

The concert concluded with Astor Piazzolla’s “Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas,” where the seasons met the passionate heartbeat of Buenos Aires. Piazzolla’s music, infused with the emotion of tango, brought the evening to a thrilling close, merging fiery rhythms with introspective lyricism.

The audience’s response was overwhelming, their enthusiasm echoing long after the final note.
