Trio opens the Lyatoshynsky year in Potsdam and Berlin
January 12, 2025
At the beginning of January the splendid Lyatoshynsky Trio opened the celebrations for the Boris Lyatoshynsky anniversary year with two remarkable concerts: one at the Palais Lichtenau in Potsdam and another at the renowned Piano Salon Christophori in Berlin.
The programs for both evenings featured a carefully curated and diverse repertoire that not only honored Lyatoshynsky’s musical legacy but also included timeless chamber music classics. The concerts began with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Trio in C minor – a work full of passion and energy, performed by the trio with technical precision and profound emotional depth.
The highlight of the evening was Boris Lyatoshynsky’s Second Piano Trio. This masterpiece, unjustly rarely performed in Europe, is one of the most significant works of Ukrainian chamber music and was met with great appreciation by the audience. The trio’s interpretation vividly brought Lyatoshynsky’s powerful and emotional musical language to life, underscoring their deep connection to their cultural heritage.
The program concluded with Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Piano Trio No. 1 – a true gem of Romanticism. With breathtaking virtuosity and finely nuanced interplay, the Lyatoshynsky Trio transported listeners into a world of elegance and passion.
Both concerts were very well attended, and the audience’s enthusiasm was unmistakable. The sustained applause even prompted the Lyatoshynsky Trio to perform an encore – a wonderful testament to how deeply their performance resonated with those present.
A heartfelt thank you goes to both venues – Palais Lichtenau and Piano Salon Christophori – for providing such a welcoming atmosphere, which gave these concerts a unique and special setting.
Stay tuned – the anniversary year has only just begun!
