Debut at the Salzburg Festival Opening Fest

On 18 July 2026, the Lyatoshynsky Trio made its debut at the Fest zur Festspieleröffnung, the official opening celebration of the Salzburg Festival – one of the world’s most prestigious classical music festivals.

Performing in the historic Carabinieri Hall at DomQuartier Salzburg, the ensemble presented two concerts for full audiences of around 400 listeners each.

The first programme explored the rich diversity of 20th- and 21st-century European music, featuring works by Arvo Pärt, György Kurtág and Borys Lyatoshynsky. It was a particular honour to perform Kurtág’s music during a festival season that places a special focus on the composer’s centenary. Equally meaningful was the inclusion of Borys Lyatoshynsky’s Piano Trio No. 2 alongside these landmark works – continuing the ensemble’s commitment to bringing Ukrainian chamber music to the international concert stage.

The second concert presented two celebrated masterpieces of the piano trio repertoire: Johannes Brahms’ Piano Trio in B major, Op. 8, and Astor Piazzolla’s Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas, bringing together the richness of the Romantic tradition and the vibrant energy of the tango.

The warm and enthusiastic response from the audience made this debut especially memorable.
