Impressions – Concert of the Lyatoshynsky Trio at the Bank Austria Salon
October 22, 2025
On Monday evening, the beautiful Bank Austria Salon was transformed into a space of profound musical connection. The Lyatoshynsky Trio presented a finely balanced program featuring works by Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy, and Borys Lyatoshynsky.
The concert opened with Chopin’s rarely performed Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 8, a youthful work composed when he was just nineteen. It was followed by Debussy’s Trio in G major, an early and colorful composition that already hints at the future master of Impressionism. After the intermission came Borys Lyatoshynsky’s Second Piano Trio – written in exile during the Second World War, imbued with longing, pain, and hope.
With great sensitivity and technical brilliance, the trio wove these three works into a cohesive musical narrative. The evening served as a powerful reminder that Ukrainian music, like the broader European tradition, thrives on rich diversity and a shared cultural heritage.
A concert that resonated long after the final note – in the hearts of the audience and in the quiet echoes that lingered in the hall once the applause had faded.
