About Us
The Lyatoshynsky Trio was founded in 2019 by three outstanding soloists Mykhaylo Zakharov, violin, Susanne Szambelan, cello and Artem Yasynskyy, piano and is now considered one of the leading piano trios in Ukraine. With a fine sense for music and a deep connection to their cultural heritage, the trio is dedicated to interpreting exceptional works, especially those by Ukrainian composers. Their mission is to promote the rich tradition of Ukrainian chamber music in Europe and around the world.
International success is an integral part of the trio’s journey. They have performed in prestigious concert halls such as the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna, the Opéra Comique in Paris, the National Philharmonic of Ukraine and others.
Energy, passion, and innovation characterize the performances of the Lyatoshynsky Trio. With a wide-ranging repertoire that includes masterpieces by composers such as Borys Lyatoshynsky, Valentyn Sylvestrov, and Myroslav Skoryk, they continue to explore new soundscapes of contemporary music. They bring rarely heard gems of chamber music to the stage and breathe new life into them with their virtuosic and emotional interpretations.
In 2020, the trio released their debut album, featuring chamber works by Borys Lyatoshynsky. The recording was made available on international streaming platforms and was broadcast by the renowned BBC Radio 3. Through this, the trio not only made a strong statement for Ukrainian music culture but also established themselves as ambassadors of this unique musical tradition on the global stage.
A highlight of their artistic work was the innovative multimedia concert Reflections. Lines of Fate, which they presented in Kyiv in 2021. The performance combined classical music with modern light installations, 3D visualizations, and biographical storytelling to create a unique, immersive concert experience.
With their unique blend of tradition and modernity, along with a clear commitment to promoting Ukrainian music, the Lyatoshynsky Trio captivates music lovers around the world. Mykhaylo Zakharov
Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, Mykhaylo Zakharov began his violin studies in 2005 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Prof. Boris Kuschnir, graduating with distinction.
A versatile chamber musician, Mykhaylo has performed globally with renowned artists such as Boris Kuschnir, Julian Rachlin, Nikolai Znaider, Alexey Igudesman, Jasminka Stancul, Gérard Caussé, Nobuko Imai, Franz Helmerson, Miklós Perényi, and Orfeo Mandozzi. As a soloist, he has appeared with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Kharkiv Philharmonic, the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra (Croatia), Camerata Helvetica St. Gallen (Switzerland), the Odesa Philharmonic Orchestra (Ukraine), Capella Bydgostiensis Chamber Orchestra (Poland), and Kyiv Camerata.
Mykhaylo is a prizewinner of several competitions, including the “International Music Festival” in Bled (Slovenia), the International Beethoven Competition in St. Pölten (Austria), and the Fidelio Competition in Vienna. He has performed at international festivals such as Les Rencontres Festival (Switzerland), Kharkiv Music Fest (Ukraine), Kyiv Music Fest (Ukraine), Eilat Chamber Music Festival (Israel), Komitas Festival (Germany), National Gallery Festival (Armenia), Andrzej Nikodemowicz International Festival (Poland), and UStream Festival (Austria).
In 2019, Mykhaylo co-founded the Lyatoshynsky Trio, making a successful debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus.
Susanne Szambelan
Polish cellist Susanne Szambelan was born in New York and grew up in Poznan. In 2014 Susanne moved to Berlin, where she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” with Prof. Stephan Forck and Prof. Claudio Bohorquez.
Her great passion for chamber music has led to performances with artists such as Boris Brovtsyn, Daniel Hope and Noah Bendix-Balgley. 2021/24 Susanne is the scholarship holder of the chamber music program Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutsche Orchester Stiftung #MusikerZukunft as a solo artist 2023. She was as well a scholarship holder at the Kurt Sanderling Academy of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin 2022/23.
Her solo and chamber music performances have been broadcast on ARTE Concert and Deutschlandfunk Kultur, among others. She realised two solo albums for the lebels DUX and Prospero Classical.
Susanne has performed at festivals such as the Krzyżowa-Music, Encuentro de Santander and Zermatt Festival.
Thanks to the Villa Musica scholarship, Susanne plays a cello by Jean- Baptiste Vuillaume.
Artem Yasynskyy
Born in Donetsk, Ukraine, Artem Yasynskyy gave his first concert at the age of eight. He completed his piano studies with distinction at the State Prokofiev Music College in Donetsk and quickly gained recognition at numerous competitions. Since 2010, he has lived in Bremen, where he completed postgraduate and master’s studies at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen. Since 2015, Artem has been a piano lecturer there.
Artem has received numerous international awards, including the 2nd prize and five additional distinctions at the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2021. He also won the Gold Medal at the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, Ohio (USA). Other notable successes include the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition (Salt Lake City), the Sendai International Music Competition (Japan), the Gian Battista Viotti International Piano Competition (Vercelli, Italy), and the Horowitz International Piano Competition (Kyiv, Ukraine).
As a soloist, Artem has performed with orchestras such as the Utah Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Kharkiv Philharmonic, Kyiv National Philharmonic, and Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2016, he gave a highly acclaimed solo recital at Carnegie Hall, New York.
